I woke up this morning to a strange creature (dead) on my front porch. After doing some research, I believe that it is a crawfish/crayfish/crawdad. I would like to know what kind it is and what the heck is it doing on my porch? I have attached two picturesAttached File  misc 001.jpg   1.65MB   0 downloadsAttached File  misc 002.jpg   1.68MB   0 downloads. Thanks for your help

I believe there are only two crayfish species in that part of Florida, Procambarus alleni and P. fallax. I don't know how to distinguish between the two.

I also don't know how to distinguish the Florida species, but usually positive identification of a crayfish requires a clear picture of the underside of the tail including the swimerettes.

As to how it got there, they wander around in search of a home. It likely came from a nearby pond or stream. How far are you from water?
