I have searched and searched and can't find a match for this species. Anyone know what it can be? They are all silver on the sides, very quick swimmers but will also hover in place, with slight red coloration at the base of their pectoral fins. I thought it must be some kind of shad or shiner. I caught 3 in a small creek near my house (eastern NC) in a big pool of water about 3 feet deep with a cast net. Thanks in advance for any help!

Do you have a closer picture? From that one, I'd say golden shiner, but I need a little more detail to be sure.

Hey neat. I have one of those too. At least I think I do. Mine was a bait bucket rescue, so I've never been quite sure of its exact geographic origin.

I thought it was a gold shiner also, but I had caught some gold shiners previously and their bodies looked more square. This fish is very slim.

It's definitely a golden. The body shape and the long anal fin are unmistakeable.

I'd say Golden Shiner, too.
