today i found darters with a pointed snout/face i was unable to ID them so i put them back
these and other darters were in a small trib of the Little Miami River (LMR).
as i moved up stream the water got colder and cleaner it may lead to a spring im just not sure
next week i will try to get permission from land owner as the creek left state land.
i hope to find SRBD in this trib off of the LMR. It has been 10 months now and i just cant find them in my area i have read paper work on the net that shows them in our county but i cant find them.this small creek was full of life small to micro size and 3 types of craw fish
im not use to seeing main stream of the lmr.some are blue.all in all it was a good day i wish my camera was not broken it got wet again.

It can be very frustrating when you search and search for something and can't seem to find it. I too read tons of material tell where Scarlet shiners were but couldn't find them. Once I found one, seems like I find them all the time now. As for your SRBD's, if that creek is in fact a spring creek, I'd say your chances are much higher of finding them there. I have only found SRBD's once and it was in a small, spring creek but there were hundred's of them there.

Josh, what got me about this small creek was how many kinds of fish were there most of them are in the main stream but this creek is small only 5' wide and maybe 6" deep for the most part.
but its loaded with fish, craws and the like.bottom has smallish rock to gravel and sand for the most part.with deeper pools of leaf liter and twigs.

I'd keep pushing upstream. The SRBD stream JohnO and I found was only about 3-4 feet wide and fairly shallow. If it wasn't a spring creek, it would probably dry up during the summer. We found a variety of fish closer to the mouth, but as we pushed upstream, we stopped finding other fish and only found SRBD's.

Wish I could help more...come to central KY and I'll show ya a good place for them :smile2:

Where I've caught southern redbellies is in creeks as you've described but in the little pools under cover such as overhanging brush or dense plant areas. They are very good at seeing you first and darting off to protective cover. If you stay still long enough they come out and use the whole area but any commotion and off they go again.
