Interesting article. Man "faces 30 to 180 days in jail, fines from $500 to $2,000, court costs and $1,500 restitution to the state. State officials said they were notified of the poaching incident by a friend of someone who looked on, but found it difficult to find the man. "The fishermen we interviewed, who fish down on the Grand regularly said they didn't know him," Dettloff said. "Our officers tried to find him the old-fashioned way, but the media played a huge role in flushing this guy out. He turned himself in within a couple of days of the TV reports then we started the investigation."

The original photograph of the alleged poacher was circulated by DNR law enforcement staff in early June after nearly a month of investigating the May 7 incident. State conservation officer Dave Rodgers said officials had been watching the Fourth Street dam site for two weeks hoping the angler would return.

His photograph had been snapped by several onlookers who had encouraged him to release the fish at the time. Onlookers also reported him driving a newer model silver-gray GMC pickup with a white tool box behind the cab."

If there are people there photographing you who know it is illegal to take the fish then release it. It's common sence.

I don't think that's quite the point

The scary part is that if that idiot had half a brain he probably could have thrown it back in the river at the point where he was photographed with the fish up on the bank and gotten away free, while the fish would still have died.

Agreed that it's not the point, but it does show you what an idiot the guy is!
