My resources were limited because my family didn't have any money and I eventually lost my love for the hobby. After getting old enough to support myself and yadda yadda yadda I got back in to the aquarium hobby. Fresh, salt, exotics, etc. Then recently recalled what I used to keep as a kid and began googling. Had no idea natives had such a big fan base. Excited to find so much info on the net but really excited to have found you all on this forum. Just purchased a 75 gallon and plan to learn all I can before diving in (no pun intended).
Apologizing in advance for all the newb questions. I love the pics section. You guys have some inspirational set ups. Looking forward to posting pics of mine soon.

Cool. I am debating between collecting or just buying online but where do you collect from? I was thinking about Loch Raven Reservoir.Welcome aboard. Quite a few people in the DC/Baltimore area. We never really seem to all get together outside of one or two of us, but it never hurts to propose the suggestion.

What I am looking to do with the tank is darters, topminnows, shiners, and small suckers. You know of anywhere that I could find all of these? I know shiners and suckers are probably pretty common but the topminnows and darters? Not necessarily Loch Raven but anywhere in baltimore county. Not sure you'd find much interesting in the reservoir other than gamefish species that likely cannot be kept below legal size limits and only on hook and line. There are some nice streams that feed into the reservoir that have things like Blue Ridge sculpin, rosyside dace, common shiner, northern hog sucker, fallfish, and such. There are some oddities in the Maryland regulations regarding where you can legally collect bait (in relation to distance from dams, mouths of larger streams, special fishing areas, trout waters, etc.) that you should look at before collecting. Lots of resources for the state easily accessible from the web a search engine to help you find and identify fish too!
