the last two nights i have lost two fish, one 3.5" greenside darter and one 4.5"golden shiner
its one or the other, greensunfish or a big creekchub.these fish have been in a stream tank
together for 6 months the chub and greensunfish have doubled in mass in this time frame.i feed
my fish well so its not from hunger, these two species just do not play fare with others

I've never known a fish that cared whether or not it was hungry before deciding to eat. Both of those guys seem to be pretty capable predators, so it's probably a good idea to keep only fish too large for them to bully/eat with them.
