Alright. in prepartion for my southern trip i went out and bought 2 20 longs...here are the pics. i took gravel from a local lake. i love that it was very dark...got the plants from that lake as well. then collected some other rocks from a river....they had the algae on them and all kinds of nice lil bugs for the darters to hopefully find. will this darker gravel make the colors stand out on the darters? i also have an AC 50 and an aquaclear 30 on it.

I like that gravel Justin, I ment to run to the creek this week and get some extra for my tank. Most of the gravel around here isn't that dark though.

very nice looking tank :cool2: ive heard using black gravel brings out the color in fish, so a dark brown substrate should do something similar (obviously not as much but close)

wow! you have incredible skill with decorating your tanks.(aquascaping?)
I wish mine could look half as good as these. It just never works out for me.

Nice looking tank, Justin! And yes, you are right, the darker substrates will help to intensify and darken the colors of the darters. Good job!
