we caught this in virginia i believe in the clinch river.

the body kinda reminds me of the saffron. but its not colored like the rest and this one has that dotted line going down his body.

I'm not an expert, but based on the square spot on the base of the tail, I would have to say they look like Tennessee shiners. The fish in the third pic looks a bit different though.

I'm not an expert, but based on the square spot on the base of the tail, I would have to say they look like Tennessee shiners. The fish in the third pic looks a bit different though.

My guess on the 3rd pic is a washed-out rosyside dace: scales look smaller than shiner scales. I cant see the mouth, but it should be large and steep-angled. Watch for trace of pink just behind the gill cover. A good meal usually brings back the color.

I was thinking rosyside too but wasn't sure enough to chime in at first. The shape of the head certainly looks right for one...

Allow me a "me too" for the tennessee shiner ID. And rosyside dace is believable, too, for the other fish.
