I haven't sampled much since the weather got cooler, and haven't fished much during the fall (august is normally my last month of fishing until ice fishing starts). But this week I set minnow traps and tried fishing the streams. Though I still had luck with fishing ponds, my stream fishing and minnow trapping had no luck. I have observed before from looking in the water over the years some pools lose fish they have when the weather gets colder, also the water level has been getting lower now the rains of summer have died down. (but fishing pools lead to limited luck).

I will take someone sampling in my ares this upcoming week (brrrr.... cold water of autumn) and am worrying about the fish. Where have they gone?

I posted of a similar situation last year about this time maybe a little later. The streams around where i live in Indiana, are really low with little or no flowing water, just puddles so to speak, here and there with large breaks in between and what fish are there, quite a few really are huddled up gasping at the surface for air, and wont take any kind of bait. Those puddles are so oxygen depleted that they have used it all up and have no water turbulance to replace it. Last year it seemed all the fish just disappeared from the creeks all together. I think they may have followed the retreating water down to larger puddles here and there or maybe even swam back upstream to the lake or wherever that creek started. right now, the only luck im having is in collecting small minnows around the wed beds of lakes etc. that i use as feeders.
