I've been attempting to treat a male Horneyhead Chub for popeye for some time now with little success. I started out with Maracyn 2 (with no improvement) and recently completed a 2nd 6 day treatment with kanamycin sulfate (after a water change), this time by feeding the fish an antibiotic-laden food, also containing kanamycin sulfate. The condition has improved slightly in that now only on eye is sticking out. Any suggestions? Should I continue with another treatment? This fish is nearly 8 inches long at this point and is one of our more interesting species, so I'm willing to spend some time on trying to beat popeye. Has anyone ever successfully treated popeye?!

Depends what the cause is: bacterial, viral, fluke, nematode, tumor ... If both eyes are bulging it may be an osmoregulatory problem (retaining excess water). Meds are a shot in the dark if you cant determine the cause, but frequent water changes, salt (1-2 teasp/gal) and good food (incl veggies: peas, zucchini, etc) are always helpful no matter what the cause.
