I searched all over to make sure I wasn't breaking a board policy. I have way better shots of my tank and the water has finally cleared and I wanted to start over. Also wanted to add for those considering Walstad, I had serious cloudiness problems when my substrate was gravel on soil. I assume soil kept seeping through grave. I coevered the gravel in sand and the problem was eliminated in 24 hours. Also the fish definitely love the sand bottom.

Here you go!

Either fantail darter, logperch, or greenside darter. ID Help please.

absolutely stunning. That, my friend, is a tank to be proud of. I'm hoping to go planted next summer, and I hope it turns out half as nice as that! Keep us posted on the murkiness/build ups on the sand.

Thanks. Comments really appreciated. I put a lot in to this tank to get it up. If you didn't see in my other threads I have some Pingi Log Suckers. They are non-native cold water fish. I bought them initially because I read all the bad luck people had with native suckers and I really wanted one, but mine seems to be thriving. The pingis are way too competitive for food. I am thinking about taking them back to my LFS and seeing if they will give me enough credit for 4-6 White Cloud Minnows.

I had a few white suckers around 2 or 3 inches that would eat flake food that I sink to the bottom. They would pick it out around the pebbles.

Best of luck trading in the fish, and congrats on the success with the sucker.

id say your mystery fish is a greenside darter, logperch have a more pointed nose and fantails look totally different from what you have

Got rid of the pingi logsuckers. I hated those fish. They ate everything. It was like they couldn't be filled. Well anyway, the LFS gave me $8 credit for the 2 and I got 5 white cloud minnows. Look like neons sort of. Like them a lot. I think I am done stocking my tank. I could probably handle another 10-15 inches of fish but like the idea of lightly stocking it.

Lozgod,

I'd have to agree that your mystery fish is a Greenside Darter. Very cool! Also, I really like your tank setup. It looks like the plants are starting to fill in nicely. Additionally, I like the look of the sand over gravel. It looks very natural, like you would see a sandy area in nature. Nice job!

Ok, I now have a complete list of plants so I figured I would ise it as an opportunity to post another full tank shot and post my complete list of plants.

Didiplis diandra
Alternanthera
Ludwiga Ripens
Elodea
Java Fern
Java Moss
Vallernsia Gigantica
Amazon Sword
Frogbit
Duckweed
Dwarf Baby's Tears
Hornwort

and a relentless growth of brown algae that I hopes disappears soon now that the tank is aged.
