This is my 29 gal I have right now...they house my darters I got from Ed...Thanks Ed for sending them to me...I really like the darters...now everytime I go near the tank they swim up to the top and middle of the tank darting in mid water waiting for food....I've since hang some java moss on the surface and they would sometimes just rest on top of the moss near the surface waiting for blood worms...

Those fish are beautiful! I was thinking about doing a darter tank a while ago but never could work up the nuts to do it. I am real finiky about small fish. They just all seem so fragile to me...But yours look AWSOME!

I just bought a new 6.6 gal acrylic tank...was around $50 at Petco...I think I might put a few of the rainbows in there and put a tiny powerhead...the tank is around 24" long x 8" deep x 9" high...I saw it a while back and though it was glass but then I opened the box and it was made of a nice thick acrylic...so I had to get it...came with a powerfilter and light etc...
not sure yet...I am either gonna set it up as a tiny stream tank or just a planted tank....
Hey chad how are your bullheads?
Anyone tried using smooth black rounded pebbles as substrate for a tank? I saw them at Walmart for 90cents a bag...they are in the silk flower section...labelled as black river pebbles...no coating just tumbled so the sides are rounded...I was tryin to find a pic online but couldnt...just wondering if it would look good with black flat pebbles...

Ahhh the bullheads are doing great! I have been treating the tank with melafix because they were beat up pretty good and they seem to be doing fine. The two are ALWAYS out and the other hangs out in the flower pot. I hope they don't start messing with my other fish in that tank though because they will be gone in a heart beat if that happens! Either I have some very hungry fish or somebody here will end up with them...BTW if anybody wants one I wouldn't mind letting one go. I do owe some people here MAJORLY. And I think that tank would make a sweet darter tank. You should post a pic of it. It sounds really cool. Nice and long.

I'm glad to see they've found a nice home. I don't see any moss balls in there, though. So how'd your wife like them?

Wow, really nice setup? What are the other fish in there? I have found darters difficult to keep. I have tried I guess about 5 species and they always die within a year for no obvious reason. As for the black rocks...I have used them before, not the black ones but the normal river stones ones. I would give them a good warm rinse and after theat they should be fine.

Hi Ed...She likes them a lot...I dont put the moss balls in there cause the tinfoils and shiners nip at them...I have them in a jar...and two in my Longear tank...gonna move them around soon...

Managed to snap a few more after the water change...the two pics of the rainbow darter are the same shot one with flash and one without...funny thing the one with flash made the fish have a pissed off look on its eye.

The greenside darters seem to be very shy and thus getting less food...the rainbows would swim all the way to the top and finish off all the blood worms before the greensides get them...so today I had to stick my hand in the tank right close to the greensides and release live scuds and finally they had something to eat...they do have tiny mouths for their size compare to the rainbows....
