ok. One of my dace has a black bump about .5-1mm on it's face. Fish is swimming irradically like it is trying to scratch an itch. Rubbing against the sand, driftwood, whatever.

Looked up the symptoms and it seems to be blackspot.

I do not have a quarantine tank but plan on getting one tomorrow. Budget is tight at the monent so would this be sufficient?

Fish bowl
Air Stone
Treatment product from LFS

Is anything else needed, or does anyone have experience treating black spot?

Forgot to add. I can not add chems/medicines directly to my tank. I have worries regarding my invertebrates.

"blackspot" as i understand it (the snail/fish/bird parasite) is not treatable. it is also not harmful to your fish.

i had a bunch of golden shiners with blackspot and they were absolutely fine. never scratched or swam erratically. also, there were always more than one spot (usually in excess of 10).

blackspot is very tiny, about the size of this period you see on your screen ---> . nowhere near .5 - 1 mm. they were also just specks in the skin, not actual "bumps".

what you have doesn't seem like regular ole blackspot. can you post a picture?

Wish I could but the fish died. Another dace that seemed perfectly healthy died as well.

Water quality has been fluctuating as the tank is cycling. Right now it is low ammonia, no nitrites, and low nitrates. I set up my tank via the walstad method with the expectation it would be instantly cycled. Wasn't the case for me but the cycle has started so hopefully my fishloss will stop. Lost 7 so far.

5 to overnight O2 depletion 1 to unknown causes and one to disease.
