Dear NANFAns,

For the third year in a row, the Southeastern Wisconsin Native Fish Club (SEWNFC) and Discovery World at Pier Wisconsin are teaming-up to coordinate a special event for those interested in native fish in Southeastern Wisconsin. On Saturday, November 14th, you are invited to a FREE aquarium viewing and a behind-the-scenes tour of the aquariums at Discovery World/Pier Wisconsin. That's right, this event will be FREE OF CHARGE! This is an $17.00 per person value! The event starts at Discovery World at 2:00pm. Please note that YOU MUST REGISTER WITH ME BEFORE THE TRIP TO ATTEND as I have to provide our hosts with a count of attendees before we come. Please call me or email me if you plan on attending. I will have to know how many adults, how many children ages 3-17, and how many children under 3 will be attending.

Also, please note that we will be having our SEWNFC (NANFA affiliate) meeting after the tour at the Discovery World. We may be having food and refreshements, and will have some native fish and fish-related items to raffle-off, and possibly more. It'll be a great time for all!

Addtitionally, please note that the Discovery World will be giving us a $5.00 parking voucher per car. Therefore, the only cost may be a few dollars above the $5.00 for parking. But that's not for-sure. The $5.00 may cover it.

Discovery World/Pier Wisconsin's address is: 500 North Harbor Drive, Milwaukee, WI 53202. Check out their website for more info about Discovery World. Their URL is: http://www.discoveryworld.org. For those people coming from out-of-town, please note that the Marquette Interchange project is completed, so you should have no trouble getting to the museum!

One last thing, I have a person from Madison who would like to attend the event, but doesn't have transportation. If you are coming from the Madison area and have room in your vehicle for a fellow native fish enthusiast, please let me know. Thanks!

Hope to see you there!

Brian

All,

Please find below some pictures I took at the Discovery World trip on Saturday. We had a really good turnout. I think that only 2 people of the 47 we had scheduled didn't show up. Special thanks again to Ken Billin and the Discovery World for letting us come and see the facilities. I think that everyone had a great time! Anyways, on to the pictures!

This is the Great Lakes Future exhibit. There's real water in the lakes, and fish tanks integrated into the exhibit. You can see that there were a lot of people there that day, too!

PB140021-Jenny-800x600.jpg
Jenny, one of the employees at Discovery World, telling us about the quarantine tanks. This photo was taken "behind the scenes".

Part of our group and Ken Billin, curator at Discovery World, walking around behind the scenes. Ken is the man in the blue denim shirt.

People waiting for the sturgeon to come around so they can touch it, in the touch tank.

People from our group peering into the very large Lake Michigan tank.

And if this set of pictures wasn't enough for you, you can find some more pictures of the Discovery World Aquariums on Kevan Bates' photo page, at:

I hope you've enjoyed! To let everyone know, I'm still setting-up our December Native Fish Club meeting. I will post in this forum as soon as I have everything together. As always, if you have any questions, please email or call me. Talk to you soon!

I definitely need to visit this place :smile2: I'll be in the Milwaukee River doing some fishing on Friday.
