Are your "mosquito fish" Gambusia holbrooki or Heterandria formosa?

What are you going to do with those fish when they get bigger? A quick Google showed several pictures of 50+ lb mirror carp.

gumbasia, i will keep upgrading them iam planning on a 150 next year. they won't get 50lb in a tank, a few pounds tops for a tank.

That's what people always say about various Amazonian catfishes, too...

I had a red tail catfish I was told won't grow big because they only grow as big as the tank. I got 2 oscars, 2 jack dempseys and 1 redtail in a 55 gallon. The red tail looked cute as a kitten at 2 inches. In about 2 and a half years he ate everything else in the tank by that time and was literally about as big as the tank.

Took him to a LFS where he is still alive to this day 8 years later last time I checked. They have him in a 600 gallon show tank. He is close to 4 foot long judging by eye. I never asked if they had an actual measurement. I traded him for 2 lion fish, an unk. eel, a grouper and saltwater angelfish, and a group of damselfish to cycle the tank initially.

Typically fish only grow to the size of their tank because at that point they die.

Just to bust your chops . . . clean up the clutter around your tanks and the photo's will look better . . . (yeah, I should talk).

Are those carp fishing trophies or something in the background.

The mirror carp a super cool!

minnowmagnet,

I think that your tanks look just fine. Thanks for sharing your tank photos with us! Regarding the fish that get large, hopefully you can trade them back to the pet store when they get too big for your tanks. Thanks for joining the forum, and I hope to hear from you again soon!

I had a mirror carp once that I found in a school of regular carp. He was really neat until he was eaten by a voracious fish eating predator (and I don't mean catfish hunter  )

Hey, I also eat cows, pigs, elk, deer and birds! And I only eat fish that are jerks.

Cool tanks! I see you have some Carp Angler Group trophies, neat! I just got into carp fishing over the summer, one of my favorite types of fishing now.

Too bad carp get so big, it would be neat to have some in an aquarium to observe their habits.

Where are you finding the baby carp? I've yet to see any while fishing or collecting.
