Which redhorse is this? I initially said golden due to appearance but with 44 lateral line scales I'm not certain. Is there a better way of identification?

Illinois River watershed.

I think you are correct. The scale count is on the upper limit for a golden but the fish looks too deep bodied for a black and the dorsal fin is not right and the fish is not deep bodied enough to be a silver. You have no other options. This lips seem to have a slight v to the rear edge which they should have for a golden but because they are not closed it is not much of a V. I suspect if they were closed the V would be more obvious.

A duq that size will have a lot more coloration on the scale margins as well.

A black that big would also have a more rounded nose rather than that angular one of a golden.

I'd have to agree, but I see quite a few black characteristics too, Moxostoma are sometimes tough.
