breeding minnows

hello. im raising minnows for this ice fishing season. i cannot figure out what kinda minnows i have. maybe someone here can help me. ok. i got these minnows from a pond.they are black on top with silver sides and very shinny. with all orangish red fins that are tarnsparent expect at the edges. only 5 out of 10 have orangish red fins. the other 5 are just natural color. im thinking maybe there half females and the other half males. or maybe there two differnt kinds of shiner. if they are two different kinds im only interested in the ones with the colored fins thanks dan

HI icefisher315, Welcome to the board. it would help if you had a picture.
this may help you some.
on a side note its not a good idea to keep fish in captivity then fish with these fish at a later date.

I'll take a picture and get back to you. i intend on following the guidelines in the new york state regulations handbook you sent me. because i do care about the lake and i dont wanna spread anything bad around to them. your information was very helpful to me thank you and i appreciate it. i still would like to know the species of these fish so let me go get that picture. icefisher315
