cool, i didn't know they eat minnows. I heard they bite when handled but i have scooped them out of my swimming pool with my bare hands with no trouble.

I got some feeder guppies lately that had either a boatman or backswimmer in it and a diving beetle. I got them too in hopes my fish would eat them. I think the boatman/swimmer (never looked close enough to ID it) got eaten, but the beetle was still alive today and now it is on the surface is sadly a whirligig. I hope some fish will ear it.

Drop them onto the hot cement around your pool and then try handling them! They make you jump pretty good, but the sting goes away in about 30 seconds. It is pretty rare that you get nailed by them, but one time we were seine a cool stream with no riparian veg on a warm sunny day, we'd sit the net on the rocks to sort through it which turned out not to be a very good idea....

Whenever collecting fish, it is always a good idea to ensure that there are no bugs in with your fish, better to be safe than have injured fish.

Cheers
Peter
