The Asian grocery store near my house sometimes sells pollack or cod eggs, for human consumption. I freeze them, slice them with a razor blade, and feed them to fry.
Yesterday I caught a steelhead from a lake erie tributary. I collected some of her eggs and fed them to my pumpkinseed. I thought he’d like them, but he became almost frantic searching the aquarium for more. If I’d have known he’d like them so much, I’d have saved all the eggs! It got me to thinking, why aren’t fish eggs available as a frozen food for aquarium fish? They’ve got to be among the most nutritious foods available since they’re just raw protein and fat.
