Thanks for all the help identifying my warmouths. I am looking for advice in setting up my 46 Gal bow front for them. Right now I have 4 Warmouths in a 10 Gallon established tank.

1) 3 of the 4 fish have a single white spot on them - they are all on a fin. I have been watching the spots for about 2 weeks and have seen no changes in them, other than one seems to be getting smaller. I have 1 tsp salt per gallon it the tank and have for about a week. I Found this article and was wondering if I should do it just as a precaution before placing the warmouths in the new tank.

2) The canister filter in the new 46 gallon is a Fluval it has a sponge mechanical filter followed by 3 compartments that can contain anything. I am planning on putting ceramic media in the first, activated carbon in the second, and I don't know what if anything to put in the third. Suggestions?

3) I was planning on using plastic plants in the aquarium but am wondering if it might be better to do live plants. I have never had live plants before. If I do, what kind? the tank has a single florescent light.

Thanks again this forum is great

Don

I doubt you have ich.
Ich might be the most commonly misdiagnosed fish illness for both tropical and native fishes. Many times any "white spot" on a fish is treated as ich even though it's much more likely to be a simple slime coat issue.

I would advise keeping up with water changes (keeping nitrAtes as low as possible) and add 1-2 Tablespoons of salt to every 5 gallons as you currently do with water changes.

If the problem persists get back to us.

What kind of worm? They don't look like anchor worm. They are just white spots I did feel one and it is a hard raised bump not just skin coloration.

that i dont know... my grandpa who is a BASS champion said that its a worm. Just cant remember the name....Some of the fish he use to keep had them and all he did was take and exacto knife and cut the small hole on the fins and remove them. The fin will heal eventually

For anyone who cares the white spots on all my warmouth cleared up about a week after this thread started. They have not returned. Still don't know what it was but I did nothing special to clear them up. All 4 fish are doing fine.
