just aquired this set up from a friend that owns a small pet store, he wa moving his shop and didn't want to move this . i got it in trade for a days labor(i was gonna help him move anyways)... but the only was i had to take the sole inhabitant wich was a 15" albino fenestrata . i was able to rehome the fish with another pet store and got some store credit to boot .

so here is the plan ... so far going to build a 3-D background add some driftwood and maybe some native plants and prolly gonna stock with soe darters and maybe a madtom or two

here are some pics of my progress s far picked up the tank yesterday

I agree, that is going to look good. Keep us updated with photos of building that background. I have built two and haven't been terribly satisfied with either of them. I'm interested in seeing how this project goes.

What did you use to color the concrete? I bought some concrete color from Home Depot but the color was unpredictible and didn't look natural.

i used concrete dye mixed colors and then mixed with a little water. i just tried different approachs and found that for me brushing the dye water mixture over partially dried concrete then using a dry brush to blend the color

That's a good idea. When I tried to color the concrete it was completely unpredictible. The color would mix super dark with the concrete and then dry really light. Do you have this happen when you 'paint' on the color?

Keep us posted on this project. I plan on doing another one as soon as it warms up in my garage. I also want to get several practice runs under my belt before I attempt to do a major one for a 125 gallon.

well , here is a pic of the background all dry and installed.
as far as when i put color on ; i did it about 30 mins after final coat of concrete , i also had an issue with it being too dark and found that using a dry brush to blend in the color
