When i went to my mail-box today, i was greeted with a very pleasant surprise. The latest edition of the magazine im sure we have all been waiting to see, with great anticipation. Without giving anything away for those of you who havent yet received your latest copy, I will only say, Hats off to Brian, and the new publishing staff. I havent read it cover to cover yet, as i was so excited with the illustrations, i could hardly wait to get this note posted. Congrats again to anyone and everyone who had a part in what to me looks to be a very interesting read. And as the old saying goes "You cant judge a book by its cover", I think in this case we will all be pleasantly surprised.

According to Brian the printer did not get the font right. I don't care - I loved the issue.
He is going to be a great editor and A/C is in good hands. Be sure to keep him supplied with articles to publish. Even if you've never written anything before, now is the time to show what you know!

I found the article on sampling in Tate's hell very entertaining.

But what truely fascinates me is the raceway and pond system. I wonder about the possibilities of this. Could you raise two similar species together (like longnose and blacknose dace)? could you raise river darters in it? Would bugs move in to provide food or would you need to feed them? How do you keep it aerated and ice free in winter? Could you save money by building a pool into the system instead of a series of drains and overflow ponds?

I wish I had the money to build one (or more) of those. I keep thinking of things like having two of them and raising longnose and blacknose dace in one, creek chub and fallfish in another (with feeding to reduce competition). Or two for longnose dace, but one I put only the reddest males in and pick out the least red ones each generation to see if i could breed more red coloration into them.
