There's a research group at Kentucky State University in one of their applied biology departments who work with raising paddlefish. They have published material on how to do it. I forget their names, but I'd guess it's possible to track them down.
Thanks, at least it's a start.

I would suggest mailing them a few copies of American Currents.

Moon, that is most unfortunate. Some will always look down on us as "tropical fish nuts" who are looking for something "new and exciting". There are others who view nature as a strictly hands-off affair except for those they deem qualified to interact with it.
I would suggest mailing them a few copies of American Currents.
I'm a tropical fish nut looking for something new and exciting. Seriously, I've wondered about paddlefish (or spoonbill catfish as some say), and I happened to notice this thread. Can I reopen the topic? Has anyone kept a paddlefish? Are they even legal to keep in an aquarium? Are there any commercial sources? I would like to put a couple in my pond. It's large enough that it might simulate their natural habitat.

Moontanman did end up getting some. Search the forum. The thread is a couple years old now, but if this one was still around there should be some info on here.

Moontanman, if you're monitoring this, I'd like to hear more about your experience with paddlefish. Or, if anyone has had any experience w/ paddlefish, I'd like to hear about it.

Thanks, Moonanman. I read the whole thread. I was getting excited about maybe getting a few for the pond........until I got to the part where they were inhaling sunfish. I may not be quite ready for paddlefish. BTW, sturgeons were mentioned in the thread. In my limited reading I understand the British like to keep sturgeons in their ponds. Eventually, after I build a stronger, balanced population in my pond I might give paddlefish a try. Interesting fish! Did you ever get any more?
