The job description is very general; however, we hope to fill this position with someone who has experience and interest in culture of freshwater mollusks, as well as culture of traditional game and non-game fishes. The primary duties are to oversee the technical operation of our new Conservation Aquaculture Center and to develop and disseminate new technologies to improve fish and other aquatic species production at NCWRC hatcheries. Recent achievements by the former biologist in this position were to develop techniques to produce triploid trout, improve muskie rearing techniques, and construct and maintain the Conservation Aquaculture Center (CAC) for freshwater mollusk and non-game fish research and production in cooperation with AWD staff and NCSU cooperators. The CAC began operation in late 2008 to support restoration of mussel and non-game fishes throughout NC. Questions can be directed to David Deaton, Fish Production Supervisor (828-659-3324, david.deaton@ncwildlife.org).
