Is the Habitattitude program against releasing pets still viable?

Just looked up Habitattitude while composing another post. At least on the website, doesn't look like much has happened since the program first launched. Lots of "Coming Soon" messages on what should be important pages, and no news updates since 2006. When posting an FAQ list, it's customary to provide answers, not just questions...

I seem to remember PetSmart being a marquee partner (maybe even with their logo on the homepage?) when the program first launched. At one point they were supposedly giving out Habitattitude cards with every animal purchase. Is that still happening?

Seemed like the program had a lot of promise, but I don't see much evidence of activity after the initial launch hoopla. A victim of the economy and budget cuts?

As far as I know funding ended in 2006 and none has been appropriated since.
Sad as this program had a real chance..

PetSmart uses bags for fish and plants with the Habitatitude instructions on them about not releasing animals or plants.

I did recently purchase a couple fish from Pet Smart and was going to reply that I didn't get any card or other such info, but come to think of it there were a lot of words printed on that bag. I just didn't bother to read it. Unfortunately I suspect most people behave in a similar fashion.
Colorful pictures to grab the attention probably would have gotten me to read it. I can see why they put it on the bag though, saves money and generates less waste. Both of which are also worthwhile endeavors.

If there are still bags/cards being handed out with the website on them, it's too bad that they didn't at least prioritize spending to complete building that out. Definitely seems like this is an issue where enforcement is all but impossible, and only education really has a chance of succeeding on any level.

Wow. Putting messages on fish bags and animal boxes about not releasing them into the wild is a great idea.

I admit I am not up to date. But about a month ago they were making some guy who was buying a few koi sign some kind of agreement. They didn't make me sign anything when I bought 50 goldfish, but still....
