I've read through some books on Native Fishes, but one of the most informative ones that I have had the pleasure of reading through has been "Fishes of Wisconsin". It's very detailed about the Native Fish in Wisconsin and just fish in the Great Lakes area in general. The book carried a hefty fee of over $150 to buy it new. It is however available online completely free. The whole book is available page by page to be read at this website.

You might have to download a program to view the pages of the book because it does not open in Adobe Acrobat or anything like that.

Hope you enjoy it, and if you guys already knew about it, then here it is again!

Awesome, this online book will be really helpful to you. I do some sampling in Wisconsin myself. I often go to the Wisconsin River and Lake Wisconsin. I have sampled in the Baraboo River once and caught Slenderhead Darter, Shorthead Redhorse, and Least Brook Lamprey there!

Found it easiest to switch from Mozilla to IE to download the DjVu plug-in. Once downloaded, one can view the publication in its entirety. Very nice find. Thank you for sharing the link.

Question- Does such a publication exist for fishes of Illinois or Michigan?
