Being new to the whole plant theme. The only plant i've had somewhat luck with with my lighting so far is the horwort. It is very lush green on the top but looks like it gets darker torwards the bottom of the plant. is this normal? also if i was to cut some of it off to put on the other side of the tank will the piece i cut grow?

Yes, it's normal to grow like that. Mine looks best at the surface, too. I prune off the straggly looking part at the bottom and pitch it.

As long as each piece you cut it into is big enough with a growing tip at the end, that's a good way to propagate it. Three inches or more is good.

Quite a bit of info about hornwort in the forum archives. Nice looking stuff when it's doing well, but creates a mess with all the leaflets breaking off if portions of it begin to die.

try the local fish club. If memory serves me right there is a large fish club in your area. If you are running a cool water native tank I would try willow moss. I would also try to get it off of Aquatic Plant CentralThis site should save you some money. Also look for a local aquatic plant group most states have them now.

If you can't get it locally, ebay is another option. Just glancing at auctions there, looks like you could get some for well less than $5 including shipping. Even if you're only able to buy a small amount, you'll wind up with quite a bit within a few months.
