starting a 120g native tank.
Tank is reef ready so i will be using a sump. Filter plans are a wet/dry and an algae scrubber. The water will be somewhat turbulent but i can lessen the amount coming from my retun pump with a ball valve or even buy a different pump. Currently using an eheim 1262. Substrate will be a dark sand. What do people use for mechanical filters? Coming from salt, i didnt have any type of mechanical filter.

still not sure what fish i will keep. Hopefully i can find rock bass, or grass perch fingerlings online. Otherwise it will most likely be lmb.

Search around the forum a bit for info on largemouth bass before you decide to go that route. Once you put one of those in your tank, you've basically eliminated chances of keeping most any other fish long-term.

yeah i am hoping to find small rock bass and even grass pickerel. However from what i remember of the pickerel, they are boring as they sit still until food is in the water. I'm not worried about a bass only tank. I kept a lm bass in a tank solo many years ago.

Warmouth or green sunfish are very responsive as pets, and a whole lot easier to keep clean than a LMB.

i am starting to like the green sunfish idea as they are easy to get.

i am not thinking about plants in my sump and fake ones in the display. I'll be using a 50g rubbermaid stock tank as 1 part of my sump.

I kept green sunnies in a 125 gallon 3 years ago and found them to be quite aggressive...much more so than the bluegills and longears I've kept.

They are bulletproof though, so as long as you understand that going on - they're great tank fish.
