I just wanted to post the species I've trapped in a 2 day period by setting this cheap minnow trap in a local creek in a highly urban area. I've set the trap with 2 little clear vials (holed poked in them), one with saltine crackers and the other with dry cat food. I've set them during broad daylight (12-4pm) and overnight (6pm-7am). Trap is set parallel with the current and completely submerged.

Species thus far:

Banded killifish
Mummichogs (numerous)
Brown bullhead
Bluespotted sunfish

I was pretty impressed with the success rate. I apologize for the poor picture quality. Photography is NOT a hobby of mine. :smile2:

Oh, stream location is in the Huntington neighborhood along the Rt. 1 corridor in Alexandria, VA. Just in case anyone wanted to know.

using the macro setting (the button with a flower on it/over it) will help focus on fish held in hand

I just made a minnow trap today out a plastic bottle and set it in a nearby pond. I put a piece of bread balled up and some dog food in mine. Checking it tomorrow at 4 when I get off work to see if I can get anything!

Thanks .

You'd be surprised at how many pounds of rock I've had in tanks. I had a 125 gallon mbuna tank a while back with at least 400 pounds of rock in it :smile2: . Rocks are quite buoyant under water. I don't even use eggcrate anymore.

Checked my minnow trap, nothing. It was a shot in the dark anyway!
