I live right off Huntington Ave by the Wilson bridge and am looking to broaded my seining/trapping to other areas. I know Accotink allows fishing/harvesting, so I figure that someone on the forum has collected here. I've had trouble getting spotfin shiners, and really most other shiners as well.

I can get all the blacknose dace, banded killifish, tesselated darters, and pumpkinseeds I want but haven't hit the shiners yet.

Just figured I would "fish" a bit.

Gene, you really should go further west. Those streams around Fairfax County are really degraded and don't hold a great variety of species.

The place that Derek is going when Bart is in town has quite a few. I believe he has a report from there in the Trip Reports section. The Shenandoah has some, quick google... http://www.cnr.vt.ed...andoahriver.htm .

Yeah, no doubt Drew. I work on the Anacostia River almost daily and have grown so accustomed to degraded waters that I've forgotten what I'm missing.

I love camping in Shenandoah National Park, but haven't made it a bit further West into the river.

Are there any obvious access points (thinking parking lots) to "seinable" portions of the river?

If you are looking for particular fish in Fairfax County you can use this website to see where the county has sampled them. The cyprinella are lumped together but the closer you get to the northern parts of the county the better chance you will find spotfins. Most other places you will find satinfins. Surprisingly, Accotink Creek has a good population of cyprinella. They would be hard to catch with a seine though.

I fish near Luray for smallies and have seen lots of minnows, suckers, (large) greenside darters, and madtoms there. There are a lot of access points along the South Fork. There is a section of the main stem at Rt 7 before it goes into WVA that is seinable as well.

Fredericksburg would be closer for you. I've collected/sampled a lot of species in the Rappahannock tribs.
