Can Someone ID This?

also since I've put him in he hasn't moved at all. this is the largest "pond snail" I've ever seen. i put a couple other smaller ones in as well and i never see them come out. how do i know if they are still alive?

Might be a chinese mystery snail. How long has it been in the tank? Give it a day or 2 to move, if it is dead it will soon become obvious.

at the time of the pic....about an hour haha. i got it in a pond that was unnamed. there were alot of them. i dont know how a chinese snail could of gotten there.

I dont think you found a pond snail your snail looks to be Viviparis malleatus, common name trapdoor.
maybe Newt can read this thread and give you a better view on your new snail.

i only called him a pond snail....well because he was in a pond lol. i have no idea about snails. although he is moving now and on the glass. anything i should know about these guys?


aren't Chinese mystery snails the same as Japanese trap door snails?


how the heck did a Japanese snail get in a little pond in the middle of nowhere. crazy how things happen

It could also be a Campeloma species; however, being from a pond it is most likely Cipangopaludina.

That's a Campeloma species.

thanks blake..that would make more sense being native to the US. This guy is on the glass now...he is huge. this is the first time ive seen him outta his shell. i mean this guys body is BIG.
