Well, the weather has been fantastic here in southeastern Wisconsin! We just got through the second warmest April on record and May is starting with a bang! I have been out collecting and filling orders excitedly.

Anyways, I'd like to announce our next meeting of the Southeastern Wisconsin Native Fish Club (SEWNFC). The meeting will be on Saturday, May 22nd at 6:00 pm at Lee Corneliuson's house on Okauchee Lake in Okauchee, WI. His address and phone are:

Lee Corneliuson
W342N5024 Road P
Okauchee, WI 53069
Phone: (262) 567-6702

For the meeting, we will be watching native-fish-related videos. One of the videos will be related to Yellow Perch spawning in Wisconsin. I think you'll find this interesting. Perch have a really neat spawning method that is very unique. I think you'll really enjoy the video! As usual, we will have club business, food, drink, and have a native fish mini-auction. Also, please note that before the meeting, we will have a seining demonstration in Okauchee Lake. This will start at 4:30 pm at Lee's house. I will be bringing my nets and gear, and we'll throw the nets in and see what we can pull out of the lake. This should be neat as I've never collected in Okauchee Lake before. Please note, due to permitting restrictions, you will not be able to take home any seined fish. If you want to take any fish home, we will have properly quarantined and aquarium-ready fish for the mini-auction. If you have any questions, please email me or give me a call at the number below. Thanks, and hope to see you there!

I am really going to try to make it out for most, if not, all of the meeting this month!

Just wanted to post an update. In spite of the fact that I forgot to bring the videos we were supposed to watch to the meeting site #-o , we had a great meeting! The seining in Okauchee Lake produced a number of species that I did not expect to see. We caught:

Iowa Darters (Etheostoma exile)
Logperch (Percina caprodes)
Fantail Darter (Etheostoma fabellarae)
Bluntnose Minnows (Pimephales notatus)
Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus)
Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus)
Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides)
Yellow Perch (Perca flavescens)

And we only netted a very small area. It was really cool! After the seining, we went for a pontoon boat ride out on the lake and ate pizza! Yummy! Then, we headed back to the house to finish the meeting. So in all, we had a great time! And we've still got videos to watch for some other meeting!
