That's a Tennessee shiner and, yes, that appears to be a saffron behind it in the second shot.

At the time I did know what they were. I was with other members who had already I'd them at the time. I just didn't remember so I was askin for an I'd. I'm making a book and I was like I forgot what these were called. That's why I asked. I never leave a stream withou knowin what it is now. Esp in a system that has special concern fish

Those are very different details than "caught in the clinch I believe" and would have been good to say.

lol we collected in like 7 different rivers. i have no idea what they were. mike would know.

For God's sake, This is easy to see after a year away from the forum. How many people have been run off by this sort of talk? People who were willing to learn, and would have, if they had not been spoken down to by another member. Everyone on this forum has made this mistake, and if you hang around here, it is plain as day that taking fish without an ID is frowned upon. How many times must it be reiterated? Concentrate on some oil spills, or acid mine drainage, and you might make a difference, but spanking people who are trying to learn is counterproductive. I cannot remember the last time that I actually heard of a sensitive species becoming extirpated by overcollection from native fish enthusiasts.

No biggy skip. I didn't expect matt to know from last sept the story of the fish. I've been on the site fot a year now and have learned A LOT. I have learned people including myself have become very passionate about our fishes. I should have stated that I was writing a book about my travels and I had forgotten the name. I used to know it. I keep my pictures in folders named after the date they were taken and for example SW VA trip and therefore no pics are named for the species.

Actually the Saffrons were not from the Clinch but from the creek we found the Mountain Redbellies and the Kanawah darters.

correct. i was referring to the tennessee shiners..which i know remember werent in the clinch they were where we caught the redlines i believe
