I havent had any luck figuring out what these minnows are. There are too many species that look too much alike.

These Minnows were found in Tolland County, CT in the Skungamaug River.

Here is the same picture zoomed in.

This Minnow was much harder to photo. It was found in Coventry Lake, also in Tolland County, CT.

The same photo zoomed in.

Another angle, blurry.

And another angle, still blurry.

I would say your top minnow is a Fallfish, Semotilus corporalis. The one from the lake is a Golden Shiner, Notemigonus crysoleucas

Derek is right with the IDs, although the lake fish is blurry enough for a looser ID. As usual, seeing the fall fish I first thought creek chub.

True, we can't be 100% on a picture that blurry. Based on habitat though, as well as the sickle-shaped anal fin in the closeup, and the general positioning of the dorsal/anal fins, I'm 97.5% it's a golden shiner.

Thanks for the replies guys. I googled these fish and it seems they can get to be bigger than I would have thought. Any experiences with keeping them with sunfish and bass if they are relatively the same size? Do they prefer to school?

Both species are able to take care of themselves, especially the bigger ones. Fallfish are certainly a threat to any smaller fish in a tank. Kept with same-sized sunfish there shouldn't be a problem.

I was going to say that the top one looks like a small Common Shiner (Luxilus cornutus). Second one, I'm not sure. Just my two cents.
