It's been a sucky week fish wise. (actually a sucky month if you cound the couple weeks I was too depressed to change water in my tanks and lost a couple fish including the new ones I had from sachs. Sometimes the worst fish killing diseases are those that strike their owners).

This week, despite feeling better has been awful fish wise.

From no luck fishing on sunday. to two days of almost no luck sampling.

Yesterday I wanted to test my new seine out but a string came loose and I had no tool with which to rethread it. I tried dipnetting the lower part of martin brook with no luck. I then tried another marshy section of martin brook. I saw fish in a stagnant stream leading to the brook but by the time i slide down to net them they were gone. I had no luck dipnetting.

Today I had a stiff wore with me to thread the string back into the poles. I went to pearly pond in rindge which supposedly has banded sunfish. I dried dipnetting through vegetation and fallen leaves with no luck. I tried using my 5 foot seine and all I got was a 5 or 6 inch chain pickeral who quickly slithered/flopped out of the net before i had it all the way out of the water.

I tried a marshy section of contoocook river in peterborough. I heard peterborough has bandeds too but i don't know where. A tributary of the merrimack (a river which supposedly has bandeds) sounds like a good choice. I got nothing. I eventually gave in and tried fishing and only got a fallfish (and sprayed with eggs trying to unhook it as it was hooked quite good and tough to unhook).

I am starting to realize how much I suck at netting fish. I can only net 3 species regularly (blacknose dace, longnose dace, and tesselated darter) and even then don't get many. Everything else is a rare exception.

Aww well I hope you luck in the near future! I have only had luck netting my central mudminnow this month, had a bunch of rare plecos die, and also got poison Ivy while trying to get to a dipnet location. The only things I am good at getting on a regular basis are rockbass, green sunfish and blackstriped topminnow! I would really like to get some sort of shiner, minnow or dace, or even a darter other than johnny...

I feel your pain! Losing my plecos was a blow! I had a colony of 12 zebras (approximately $250 a fish... you can imagine that heart ache!) That is why I am looking for some natives to fill my tanks back up.. plus I want to stay clear of fish that need heaters!

Hope Everything turns better!

Nate

FirstChAoS,

Man, that's a bummer. I, too, feel your pain! By the way, what's a stiff "wore?"

...Today I had a stiff wore with me ...

A typo. :) I meant stiff wire. Sort of a crude needle and thread method of getting the string through the hole.

A few things I forgot to add to my report. Yesterday for the second time ever I had a leech on me. Luckilly it didn't bite into me and dropped off soon after i left the water. I got to start carrying salt on me.

Also today I did see the cute sight of a family of geese. One of the babies went right up to me. I took pictures but didn't post them as I had no fish pics to go with them.

Ah, wire. I was trying to figure out if that was a typo (several come to mind), a euphemism, or unfamiliar technical jargon.

Ah! The right vowel makes all the difference! :smile2:
