When i went north to pittsburg I caught this fish that I cannot identify.
It has weird spotted sides and does not quite look like a minnow. I am wondering if it is a baby trout.

That is indeed a baby salmonid of some sort. I would not venture a guess as to which one.

My guess would be brook trout. I can't describe why exactly other than the fact that is looks like all the YOY brook trout I've ever seen more than brown or rainbow YOY. Its very small though to be very sure. Do you know if atlantic salmon/landlocked salmon are found in this area? I've never seen one of those so that could throw my ID off. I can't find a guide to identification of YOY salmonids, although they do exist.

Sure looks like a YOY brook trout.
YOY salmon have many more parr marks on the side, and ridiculously long pectoral fins.
