I watched the big guy from afar today (if i was close he'd be gone in a flash) and he swam to the back by one of the large air bubbler strips, thrashed his body throwing around gravel, and vanished!
Do bullheads burrow into gravel?

mine do!A rare event happened today, I saw the third bullhead in my 55 gallon tank. He is the largest of the three but oddly I only see him once every few months. I thought he was hiding in the hollow stump but when i looked for the dead rock bass a couple months back i removed that and he wasn't their.

i have four types of catfish. the stonecats and bullheads hide the best.i can go for weeks at a time and never see them. often i do a head count on major clean up day vac, gravel and remove caves and other tank art/rocks.on side note i often find live red worm on clean up days as well how do they live so long under the gravel? weeks @ a time

I purchased a madtom from Sachs last fall, put it in my tank, and never saw it again for about six months. I was carrying a piece of bog wood out of the tank to a sink to scrub it clean, and out drops themine do!

catfish on the floor. It was hiding in a nook in the wood. It survived the fall and is doing fine several months later.
