Hey everyone! i was wondering if anyone had any ideas where to acquire redfin or grass pickerel in Iowa. Specifically the eastern side of the state. I am located In Davenport which is on the Mississippi River. Would love any and all suggestions!

Thanks! I did make sure I read through the Iowa regulations. It is on the threatened species list making it non-available for collecting. Thanks for the heads up! Good thing I called DNR themselves!

you could all ways purchase one, there are many sites and evan members here that sale captive raised American pickerels

shipping should be ok now for this type of fish now that day time temps have dropped some.
E. A. americanus-Redfin and the Grass-E. A. vermiculatus
do a google search out side if this forum and you can find them for sale.

Thank you for the advice! Being as though I am right on the Iowa-Illinois border, I called the Illinois DNR and talked with a lady that was in charge of the Region that I am the closest too. She gave me great advice. I bought a license and went out and found a really nice spot for Pickerel. I cought a few but released them. It was a lot of fun finding them in the wild! I had a really good time!

Not sure about your state laws, but possibly having a bill of sale might make them legal for you to possess? Smbass, Brian Zimmerman often has them for sale. Good luck.

You'll probably need a permit to keep them so they know your fish are legit & not illegally caught.
