This spring I started up my first tank, and on my first exploratory collecting trip ended up coming home with a pirate perch, which I have been keeping fed with earthworms and mosquitofish. The first thing I would like to know is if anyone has successfully kept them with any tankmates. At one point I had a swamp darter in with him, which lasted a couple months, but has since turned up missing. I was thinking of maybe trying for some Enneacanthus sunfish this spring- it seems like they would be big enough to keep from getting eaten. Has anyone had luck with these?
My second question is raising young pirate perch- what would be a good feed for them? I just started a culture of microworms which I plan on trying on them. Any other recommendations?

Yes i think Enneacanthus (of appropriate size) would work, or mudminnows, or slack-water shiners or killifish.
You'll need to make sure the pirate is getting his share if kept with other fish - they're not the fastest at getting to the food.
Fresh-hatched brine shrimp should work for feeding young.

Thanks for the input Gerald and Nick! The mudminnows definitely make sense... I don't know why I hadn't thought of them
