We were invited to participate in the Aquatic Experience - Chicago, and are looking for people to help man our booth and to promote NANFA.

Contact me if you can help or are interested in going.

Here is part of their letter to us:

The World Pet Association is bringing “Aquatic Experience - Chicago” to the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center, November 15-17, 2013. Aquatic Experience – Chicago combines everything aquatic under one roof. We have saltwater and freshwater, pond and aquatic animals available for consumers and retailers both. You will find livestock and equipment experts and trend setting manufacturers.

We are proud to welcome Aquatic Ecologist Zeb Hogan, host of National Geographic’s hit show Monster Fish as our keynote speaker! Aquatic Experience speakers will appeal to hobbyists from entry level to the most experienced. You can find more details on our website at
www.aquaticexperience.org.

We are writing you to invite the North American Native Fishes Associationto be an important part of our show. We would like to offer you a 10’ x 10’ complimentary exhibit space in our show.

Please give me a call so that I can better explain Aquatic Experience – Chicago and help you determine how you might participate. If the
North American Native Fishes Associationcannot participate as a club this year, we would like to make sure your members are aware of our show and educational benefits.

Mike...

I printed this banner a few years ago, perhaps still in my possesion. I may could find and ship it to you or even better, email you the file and you can have a local printer, sign shop or Kinkos print it.
It measures 30" x 72".
I could change the design or size if desired... but i think this design is pretty good as is. I am open to suggestions.

It might be a good opportunity to sell NANFA items such as shirts, CDs, decals. Shipping cost, to you and back to me for shirts, is expensive though and another responsibility. I would be good to have American Currents on hand. Membership sign up sheets too.

The World Pet Association is to be commended for giving NANFA this FREE opportunity to promote our interests.

Mike...
In response to your PM, Tom Watson might could assemble a package of previous American Currents issues. You could also request several playing card decks of Fishes of the Big Muddy. All cheap enough to ship. When i get back to the studio i will email you an EPS file that someone locally can print the banner from. I can also mail you some NANFA decals to sell.
E-mail me for future communications.
Casper

I'm interested in doing what I can to help. Unfortunately, I'm flying to Austin, TX on that Saturday for a conference. I can help with the planning and display. I'm located in the Champaign, IL area. Phil Nixon, pnixon@illinois.edu

That's a maybe weekend for me, but keep me in mind as a potential helper. I'll pencil it in on the family calendar and if things align properly I'd be glad to help out.

The Aquatic Experience went well, I had lots of help, Ben Cantrell, Brian Torreano, Phil Nixon, Ruoxi Li, Jerry Montgomey & I worked this event.

Thank you everyone who helped make this happen, besides the people who were there working. I would also like to thank Charles Nunziata, & Brian Torreano for providing posters, Casper Cox provided me with the data to have the banner printed. Michael Wolfe for bringing it to our attention, Tom Watson & Brian Torreano provided some American Currents back issues to pass out.
We passed out 500 NANFA pamphlets along with all the pamphlets provided by our fish vending members. btdarters.com, jonahsaquarium.com, & zimmermansfish.com. We talked to people about keeping native fish & different ways of collecting them, from nets & traps too micro fishing.
The event itself was very interesting with lots of seminars on fish, and lots of products to look at from the many venders.

Overall I think it was a good way to get our name out there & promote the keeping of native fish.

Congratulations Mike, and a big Thank You for jumping on this and representing NANFA. And also thanks to that who's who list of regional support that you got! That's three regional reps in attendance! Sounds like y'all did a great job.

It was a lot of fun! Thanks Mike for doing the bulk of the work getting the table set up.

I was able to chat with Zeb Hogan, the host of Nat Geo's Monster Fish, after one of his talks. He has done work with several of NA's larger fish species, such as lake sturgeon and alligator gar. He was excited to hear about the Illinois alligator gar reintroduction project and said after the latest season of Monster Fish finishes he'd like to follow up with us to see how it's going. He also expressed interest in coming to a NANFA convention at some point.

That's awesome! It would be really cool to have him at a convention. Maybe he would learn a bit of appreciation for the litte fishes, too!
