I conduct field days frequently and natives are core to this. Most are macroinvertebrates but we also maintain breeding sunfish population for showing reproductive behavior in species that differ greatly from those that economically important. Our animal care committee has noted this and has gotten more rigorous. Since humans so involved do we need a permit specifically for human side? Lots of physical interaction.

Not being from academia, I am not sure I can answer, but just for clarity are you talking about interactions between the fish and the participants in the field day, or interactions between the fish and volunteer caregivers?

I may be off base here, but your question made me think about a past experience as a docent at a zoo. We had educational animals, including raptors that we helped take care of (and we certainly had to sign forms saying that the zoo would not be liable if the parrot took a chunk out of us or the iguana smacked us with his tail, etc.). We also walking these through the zoo (e.g. a small hawk on a glove) and discussed the animal with people as they would walk up to us. These people obviously had signed nothing other than the fact that they had bought a zoo ticket which likely had some disclaimers on it.

I suspect since direct interactions between animals and humans so frequent we will need a document indicates no intent of harm to humans. We doing such for animal side. No disclaimer so far. People do get bitten and pinched which we consider as part of educational process.
