Hello to everyone on this forum! I have been wanting to join this for a while but I'm just getting to it now. Hopefully I will become a full member soon (will my status on here change when i do?) Trying to ask for advice on natives on non native forums can be pretty painful :). Anyways, I am from pittsburgh pa. I am a HUGE fisherman targeting everything from bluegill to flatheads. I am also a PADI certified advanced open water scuba diver (getting rescue certified in August) and while everyone else at my local dive club thinks I am weird, I prefer diving locally in quarries and lakes with bad vis to watch natives over diving in tropical places. It's kind of ironic but as of NOW I don't have any natives (which is why I joined, for some advice on my first native tank) yet they are my favorite category of fish and I know more about them than any other type of fish. My favorite/dream fish would be channel catfish, unfortunately I can't have one with my current setup. Speaking of which, I currently own 2 tanks (3 soon). One tank is a 30 tall with a planted community and the other is a 75 with SA cichlids and larger catfish. I'm really looking forward to being part if this forum and hope to see you guys around my threads and yours!

Welcome! Good to have more western PA on board! (And this comes from a WVU grad, no less... :) ) As you have seen, there is a wealth of knowledge here at NANFA. When you're ready for aquarium #3 I'm sure you can get all the info you need here.

Hopefully you will post in the trip report section of the forum; I would love to hear about northern rock quarry dives. We have several snorkelers, and their accounts always grab my attention. But as far as I know, that (Yankee quarry snorkels) is uncharted water on the forum.

If a channel cat is your dream fish, maybe you ought to be thinking dream pond! We have one at least member who has a snorkel pond, it'd be fun to hear you guys compare snorkel/scuba notes. Most of us NANFAns have our dream tank(s), too. I spent a good chunk of my youth in PA, mostly in Tioga County, and my dad's side of the family goes back in Clinton County to the very early 1800s (at least) and eastern PA to at least the mid-late 1700s. I mention it because as genealogy is also an interest of mine, one of my dream tanks is a "central PA" tank, with specimens of any type from a Lycoming County stream that bears my family's name. Hopefully someday we both get our wishes!

Thanks for the welcome man! Yes i would love a pond but sadly my back yard has a pool in it (not my decision, I said pond) and my front yard is sloped so I don't really have room for one. I will definitely post diving trips! I go out every other weekend from May to September so you will see me very active there. I will post about diving last year until I can finally get out this year (as you can imagine pa diving isn't the warmest right now :) ). Hope you get your dream tank as well! I am getting a 180 native in fall 2015 but still jot sure that's big enough for a channel.
