Great stuff, Ben. That is one sweet bowfin, and that sturgeon is something else, too! But I gotta be honest, one of my first reactions after seeing that bowfin was, "Dang, that'd make for some sweet boots!"

Here's the report with a few scenery shots and one photo of a pesky nonnative fish.

I am not much of a bait fisherman, but even if I was, I would not have the skill/luck that you do Ben. I am not sure if it is skill, luck, research, time on the water or a combination of all, but you kill them. You need a reality show. " A sucker born everyday!" Naw, not catchy enough for the general public.

Ha!  I just go fishing a lot and don't tell anyone about the skunked trips.  Makes me look more skilled than I actually am.  :D

Very nice pics Ben!  Looks like a lot of fun on those trips.  The sturgeon and bowfin are really cool.  I also love the pics that highlight features of some of the species (like the mouth of the buffalo and white bass coloration).  Well done.

I have to join the others to congratulate you for your fishing !

I'm doing mostly lure fishing for about 3 years now, but each time I read one of your fishing report I'm thinking about switching back to bait fishing :-)

Last weekend I made yet another attempt to find black redhorse in the Kishwaukee River.  On Friday I caught a small golden redhorse and a beast of a northern hogsucker.

On Sunday I caught what was probably the biggest golden redhorse I've seen, a couple even bigger silver redhorse, and a small channel cat and a small smallmouth bass.

I keep hearing about large numbers of black redhorse in the Kishwaukee.  Where are they?  :P

I'll check out that spot and a couple others in a couple days and see if they're around yet.

Something to consider is fish swifter water. Blacks here in Ohio are often in fairly swift runs, almost riffle habitat but of course move through pools too. I just have always thought of them being in swifter water than goldens or silvers.

That makes sense based on their body shape, thanks.
