I will admit to not having done my due diligence. I know nothing about the people panning this young woman. And there is every possibility she's looking at this as marketing. There are two things I keep going back to, though. One is this quote:

Wrote shark expert Drew Scerbo on the private White Shark Advocacy page:

Oh great, Elliot Sudal found a friend. Really care about sharks? Or begging for a tv show? You decide for yourselves. I already have. This isnt about conservation at all tagging is an excuse/justification for pleasure fishing. Its not volunteerism either. Anyone can get those tags and put them on sharks. Literally anyone. Lets not call recreational shark fishing conservation.

Now see what he's up in arms about...

Although this poor girl isn't quite as attractive as me and DLV in our swimmies, isn't she doing pretty much the same thing we NANFAns do? Is Drew Scerbo of the PETA ilk, or am I missing something about us? I'm serious; we are excited about Fishmap and NANFA coming together. Isn't this pretty much the same thing, only we tend to use nets and look even sillier sitting on darters? Is it just me, or is this latent sexism more than valid objection on conservation grounds? Why isn't recreational fishing able to be a component of conservation? (Admittedly, she could have a better release protocol...) Hasn't one of the true hallmarks of hunting and fishing over the last 3/4 century been responsible management of natural resources? I'm not claiming to have the answer. If I were smart, I'd look up more on Mr. Scerbo myself. That's probably where the answer is; but even if we decide to either vilify or canonize that man based on his fish cred, doesn't the question still there.

That was the first thought. The second is; Maine borders New Hampshire, convention 2016 organizers! :P

Tagging them and releasing them is better than simply releasing them. She is obviously a recreational shark fisherwoman, but has likely developed a love for the fish and wants to do her part. Seems like a non issue to me.

Yeah, it seems to be much ado about little. It's part of her schtick for the contest, but OK....

You mean you haven't considered it already!

I agree with the previous posters, even the mean one from Kentucky...

Just teasing; excellent meme, Josh!

Unless he has a permit from the state he cannot legally fish for sandbar sharks in MA.  And dragging them onto the beach would be an offense.

I wonder where he is getting his tags? I doubt my agency (NOAA) would supply him with any.

I agree with Fundulus that it's just an attention gimmick but I do wish I looked like him and had helpers like her

Wait. I thought "he" was bellyaching about her fishing for sharks and tagging them and calling it science to counter the associated bimbo stereotype? Am I wrong? If not I feel that she is doing no wrong and more good tagging the sharks she catches. Seems OK at least to me. Obviously getting her inspiration from Mrs. Palin, but she can't see Russia from Maine.

I don't think there's enough wax in the world to get Dustin bikini-ready.

I think you're right, Matt. I think she and that other dude both have their own individual shark chasin' bit. Just happened to team up a couple times. The bellyacher is some other shark-o-phile...
