Just a couple thoughts; one, the statement "it's not expected to live" shouldn't be a surprise unless the thing is also kept in a pressure cooker; two, I think the likeness in the Spongebob movie was much more spot on than the Finding Nemo one. Except for maybe Marion Ross' voice...

Here's a video by Joe Oliver of how deep-sea fish can now be collected by a robotic submarine, anesthetized, and decompressed over several days to get them up alive. These are from a few hundred to maybe a 1000 feet down near Curacao, not 2000 ft. I don't think they need high pressure to live; they just need to be slowly acclimated to lower pressure while their blood gases and air bladder equilibrate. For fish that need to stay cold like the deep sea anglerfish, I'm not sure anybody has perfected that technique yet. I wonder how long it lived?
