Hope these are OK. I have several different cool saltwater inverts that add much interest as well as valuable clean up duties. For example this broad clawed hermit [Pagurus pollicaris] from RI. His home is a store bought shell as he and his friend have all outgrown the ones they were collected in.

I am into the native marine thing, used to do a lot of collecting, thinking of starting again!

Striped hermit from Florida. One of my boys dropped it in our bait bucket while we were fishing and I grew attached to him. He made the long ride back to Ma. in a water bottle with a few inches of seawater. I floated the bottle in my cooler of freshwater containing my mollies and shiners.

My large common spider crab from Rhode Island. My 7 year old caught him and talked me into keeping him. Now he's a cherished member of our family. Love the intelligent eye.

He goes after the fish's food but never bothers the fish.

Who could say no to that face?

Love the McGuyver-ed dipnet! He does indeed look like a capable crustacean catcher. So, really though, who's the invert addict, and who's the invert enabler? :)

Very cool Mike.  Nice shot of the tank.  What fish are you keeping right now?

That's an awesome tank! How big is it? Also in your experience, is it safe to keep crabs with other bottom dwellers like blennys?

Oh I'm both enabler and addict. I love to say yes when he begs for stuff but I also love the critters themselves. The trick is to know which things will work.

That net, or others like it are all I ever use. A five spot at the pet store and a roll of electrician tape. Slip the net and tape in your suit case and find a stick when you get to your travel destination, works well for air travel.

The fish in the tank are a self sustaining colony of southwest Florida sailfin mollies and a pair of spotfin butterflyfish collected as strays.

Sean, it's very important to know which crab your dealing with. The common spider crab and the hermits that I keep show no interest in catching live fish. The fish steal food right out of "Spidey's" mouth and he doesn't even raise a claw. However there are many other species which would gladly snatch a fish.
