Dear NANFAns,

As part of my duties as Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Rep, I am organizing a NANFA affiliate club that will have local meetings and events in Southeastern Wisconsin. I am currently in the process of setting-up our first meeting. At the meeting I plan to have a speaker, a mini-auction, announcements and info about the June collecting trip, a question and answer session about our native fish, a question and answer session about our native aquatic plants and invertebrates, announcements about upcoming meetings and events, a free raffle for some native fish and fish-related items, and an introductory session for everyone to get to know each other. For our first speaker, I plan to have someone from the Department of Natural Resources come to talk about our native fish in general and about the regulations involved in collecting and keeping native fish. The mini-auction will consist of native fish, fish-related items, aquarium supplies, aquatic plants, possibly invertebrates, and such. I also plan on having some kind of refreshments at the meeting. I plan on having our first meeting either on Saturday, the 28th of April or Saturday the 5th of May. The meeting will most likely be in beautiful Grafton, WI. Grafton is about 15 minutes due north of Milwaukee along Hwy. I-43. The meeting will most likely start at 6:00pm. Currently I am leaning toward the 5th of May date. If you think you might like to come, please email me through my website or or PM me through the forum, or post in this thread. As it gets closer to the end of the month and as plans become more firm, I will post updates.

Brian

I will not guarantee my attendance, but it sounds really interesting. It would be great for our young budding naturalist, zephead.

I'd be interested in a day-long collecting trip, but probably not so much in a meeting dedicated to anything else.

Dear NANFAns,

Thought you might want to read this. I am attaching to this post a letter that I sent to Charlie Nunziata, NANFA's Regional Outreach Coordinator, about what I hope to accomplish as southeast Wisconsin's Regional Rep. I am posting it in the hopes that you get an idea about what I want to accomplish in creating a regional club, and in general. I hope you find it interesting.

NANFAns,

Currently, it looks like the meeting is going to be pushed-back to the 19th or the 26th of May. The speaker I wanted for the meeting is not available until then. I have been trying to contact him this week to confirm the date but have not yet heard back from him. I believe he's been out sampling. I will post again as soon as I have more info.

Are you at liberty to reveal the identity of the speaker?

NANFAns,
Finally, I've nailed-down a speaker and gotten a place and time for our first meeting. Please call me directly with any questions. My phone # is below, with my signature.

What: North American Native Fishes Association Affiliate Club Meeting

Who: Ben Herzfeldt, a warden from the Wisconsin Dept. of Natural Resources will be speaking on the regulations regarding collecting and keeping the native fishes of Wisconsin. He will also be talking about the impact the new Viral Hemorrhagic Septicemia regulations will have on us as native fish collecters and keepers.

When: Saturday, June 16th at 6:00pm. We plan to wrap-up at 9 or 10pm.

Where: The conference room at the Baymont Inn and Suites, Grafton.
1415 Port Washington Rd.
Grafton, WI 53024
Hotel phone: (262) 387-1180

Why: 'Cause native fish are fun!

Additionally: Regulations permitting, there will be a fish mini-auction, as well as an auction of other native-fish related items. Refreshments will be provided. I am working on getting special room rates for any meeting attendees that would like to stay the night at the Inn after the meeting.

I'm sorry to announce that I won't be there. I will be in Mississippi and because of this VHS thing its going to be too much trouble to bring any natives home. I'm going to be fishing hook and line almost the whole time though so I may try to go netting one or two days just for the fun of it.

All,

I've spoken to the hotel management and have been able to get special room rates if anyone wants to stay the night after the meeting. The special will be $94.00 per room if you mention that you are participating in the native fishes meeting. A room has 2 queen-sized beds and sleeps 2-4 people. There is an indoor pool at the hotel :D . To make reservations, contact the hotel directly. Their info again is:

Baymont Inn and Suites, Grafton.
