My daughter was at the creek yesterday and snapped this picture.  It seems the sign is being used as a rumble site, something about battling Jims.  I hope to sneak down tonight and meet this character for myself.

This sign has been submerged by floods multiple times, attacked by hoodlums yet still looks pretty good after more than 10 years.  NANFA contributed a bit of money to its construction along with TVA, TWRA, The Tennessee Aquarium and several NANFA members making personal donations.  All donors are noted in the corner.  It was my son Cobalt's Eagle Scout Project and turned out well.

Chickamonga... wasn't that where bugs bunny was always going? Good looking sign by the way!

No, he was agoin' to Albacoreky but always made a left-hand turn at Chicamauga by mistake. Probably got distracted by Cobalt's project (stood up well, it has) and the plague o' Pokemons running around...

As long as Pikacu doesn't eat darters, he? can stay.

Cool sign.  I'm surpised it doesn't have a built in photo tank and/or holding tank for the day's haul!  If I were to help make a similar sign here, it would have plastic bottles, tires, oil-slicks, and plastic bags on it as the local inhabitants.  Surrounded by houses, not forest, mind you.

Wow, that's spooky.

I have stood right there in that exact spot (+/- 6 inches) admiring that sign, and I never saw one of the those [mutant caused by radioactivity?] non-indigenous critters.

Nope I am Superman! Old legend and now a guy with headlamps exploring the river at dusk.

For real spookiness and a mysterious frogmanbeast seeking revenge...

Some of you have been to Reelfoot Lake, situated in the Northwest corner of Tennessee.  It was created by the great earthquake of 1811 when the Mississippi River ran backwards for a spell, filling in the sunken region becoming Reelfoot Lake.

This is an awesome story i ran across years ago during a visit there, written by the prolific American writer Irvin S. Cobb in 1911.  It is a quick read, about 15 minutes, and well worth the time.  Enjoy it on a quiet evening, best outside on the porch overlooking some water, reading aloud to your children just before bedtime.

:)

I just realized that the guy claiming the frogman sighting is a liar and a jerkapotamus. A week before, an infant drown in the same area. That is a photo of one of the rescue/ retrieval  diving crew. Some people will do anything for a moment in the spotlight.

HA! I wanted to use a stronger expletive deleted. I would have had to put myself on a time out though. So I settled.

 Sorry to derail.

They were playing a pokey man game, and there was a sighting. So as soon as I saw this thread, thought of the story.

Only part way through the Reelfoot story. So far it is a must read for fish heads!

"The shovel-nose cat, really a deformed kind of fresh-water sturgeon, with a great fan-shaped membranous plate jutting out from his nose like a bowsprit, jumps all day in the quiet places with mighty splashing sounds, as though a horse had fallen into the water."

First published in 1913. I had no idea paddlefish were deformed freshwater sturgeon!
