Very nice!  Beautiful images.  I will have one for my studio wall and several others delivered as Christmas Gifts right to the door of my fishy friends.  Stunning photography.

I also notice a quiet, near-ghost assist from a certain fellow...

Haha. Yes, Casper, the friendly NANFA fellow, helped out by doing the cover art and adding some ichthyological information to the date grid.

I received 3 calendars today delivered by the mail lady.  They arrived in a sturdy box and were well packed.  I love the luster heavyweight paper making Isaac's photographs even more beautiful. These make a perfect gift shipped right to a friend's or family member's door for only $20. and the bonus is NANFA earns a bit of the treasury.  Many thank yous to Isaac for putting together a great 2017 calendar.and making such a wonderful contribution to NANFA.

Thanks Casper! I'm glad you finally received them. I too thought the paper was quite nice. Thanks again for all your help with the cover and custom dates!

All nods to Isaac's excellent work.  I gave away a several calendars at Christmas and all were met with amazed gratitude.  I just checked the production site Isaac and i worked from, and it appears that 57 copies have been sold so far... and 2017 is yet to be!  The calendars turned out beyond my expectations.  Very nice, high quality.

Got mine just before Christmas and one gifted brought the expected oohs and ahs and the other is hanging up and ready for the new year.  I love the addition of the dates for people of fish.

I agree. Casper did a great job on that.

I agree. Casper did a great job on that.

Some silliness but mostly noted North American ichthyologists and dates of fishy interest.  I would like to see an article in American Currents about David Starr Jordan, The Father of Modern Ichthyology... and a fascinating man.

Also included on the 2017 calendar are details about the NANFA MO convention and the Okie Noodling Tournament held the following weekend if your willing to make a long drive. :)  I'm sure it would be a show of high regional cultural.  :)  My kind of folks.  I urge for those who have not seen the documentary Okie Noodling to do so...

Got my calendar yesterday. It's fantastic! Isaac's photography is always a treat, and the fishy factoids are pretty cool, too. The only problem is that it's going to be August at my house all year long; Love that pupfish!

As for noodling, I think we oughta fly this past Ben & Co. I bet micro-noodling would be a hit at the convention! Probably even better than the micro-spearfishing I proposed earlier! ;P

1851, January 19 is David Starr Jordan's Birthday.

He is considered by many to be the Father of Modern Ichthyology and is a fascinating man of many interests, talents and accomplishments.  I hope we can have an article about his contributions to North America's Native Fishes in an upcoming issue of American Currents.

Jordan was, in the words of biographer Edward McNall Burns, “one of the most versatile men America has produced, winning distinction not only as an educator, philosopher, and scientist, but also as an explorer, a crusader for peace and democracy, and an advisor to Presidents and foreign statesmen. …It would seem no exaggeration to say,” Burns continued, “that (Jordan) belonged to the great tradition of the 18th century, personified by such giants as Franklin and Jefferson, who took the whole world of knowledge as their province.”

"Be a life long or short, its completeness depends on what it was lived for."

It is not too late to get one of NANFA's excellent calendars.  Each month's cover features one of Isaac Szabo's excellent photographs and dates are marked with interesting fishy facts.

Today is George Brown Goode's birthday (13 February 1851 – 6 September 1896), who was an ichthyologist, although most of his time was spent as a museum administrator and he was very interested in the history of science, especially the history of the development of science in America. Goode graduated from Wesleyan University and studied at Harvard University.

David Starr Jordan described and named the Bluefin killifish, Lucania goodei in 1880 in honor of George Brown Goode.

Bluefin Killies are some of NANFan's favorite aquarium fish and can often be found in feeder tanks.  Rescue them!
