Just received my 1946 edition of this delightful book. It is surprisingly beautiful in its original binding.
Reading this book again has taken me down memory lane. William T. Innes' accounts of collecting fish and live foods kindled a spark when I was about 10 years old.
If you get the chance, buy an old copy in the original binding and enjoy it for what it is, an out-dated but delightful celebration of aquarium fishes both exotic and native. Highlights include the hand-painted color plates and the correct pronunciations of scientific names, definitely school.

I have a copy I got at a yard sale from the same era. Great book, I still enjoy looking at all the new discoveries of the time that are common pet shop offerings now.

This is also the book that changed a mild interest into a lifelong hobby, first in aquariums in general and then into native fish. I remember reading and rereading the page on Elassoma in that book. It was a library book that I remembered and then purchased one of my own a couple of decades ago.
